WEEKLY PICTURE BACK ON TRACK

I've kinda slacked on my weekly pictures but I'm gonna get back on track. You don't have to put on your thinking cap for this one. Just a cute little thing that I remember grandma letting me play with. I used to put pennies, or beads or whatever I thought was a treasure at the time, in it.

Have a great weekend.

MY VERSION OF KI'S TOTE

In an earlier post, Ki from Junk Revolution is giving away a tote bag. Me, I hardly ever win anything, so with that in mind, I decided to my own version of a tote. I have had alot of people give me their old clothes. I have bags and bags of old clothes. Well, I take those old clothes and cut them up to make rag rugs out of them. The oldest recycling in history. I purchased a Union 36 loom a couple of years ago to make my own rag rugs and when friends and family found out, they started cleaning out their closets. Now they're all in my attic and every corner of the house. So instead of using them all for rag rugs why not make my own tote.

About a year or so ago, I bought a whole bunch of fabric samples from JoAnn Fabrics and they seemed to be the right size for a tote. So I got out a couple of samples and sewed them together for a sample tote. Very little cutting, just sewing. Well, the fabric is pretty thick and hard on my 25 year old sewing machine. So off to my stash of clothes. I found several 'scrub' uniforms and started with those. Alot of cutting and mixing and matching but I think they turned out ok.

Here's my fabric sample one. I didn't change the thread in the machine to match it. I was just using this as a sample tote anyway. It's nice and thick but not too heavy. I may try to do another one but like I said above, it's kind of hard on my machine. It really needs to have a lining in it tho. The material is fraying. I used a zig zag stitch, so it shouldn't fall apart from the fraying.

These two are made from 'scrubs'. The darker one was the second one I made. I was pleased at how it turned out so I tried another one and that's where the kids/pink one came from. This one I lined the inside with the pink. The scrubs are pretty thin and that's why I decided to line that one. I am pleased with that, too. I think I am going to line the others from now on.

This one kind of fell together. This one is made out of scrub bottoms. Each leg had a pocket so I cut them up so I could have a pocket on each side of the tote. Sorry you can't see them in the picture. I'm not done with this one yet. I plan on adding other things to it. Not sure what yet, but probably applique or something like that.

I've got an old chenille bedspread that I would like to try to make a tote out of. It will probably be hard on my machine, too, but I'd like to give it a try.

Hope you enjoyed my version of Ki's tote.

Pictures Of Our Goats & Puppies

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!!

Both goats are due to have kids and they've both have had twins before. We're gonna have ourselves a herd in no time. (lol)
The puppies came from the same litter and they're both male. One will stay here to guard the goats and the other one will be going with my son and fiance when they get settled in their new house.
None of us can decide what to name them, the goats or the pups. Suggestions would be highly appreciated!!!

Have a good day

PINECONES, POTPOURRI, AND LIGHTS

I filled the 5 gallon crock with left over whatever. Material, packing peanuts, newspaper whatever was close by. I left enough room to top it off with pinecones, that I found out in the yard, and some straw woven balls. Then I layered in scented potpourri, then a small strand of clear christmas lights in a large glass container. I'd sprinkle potpourri then drop in a little more of the lights, then potpourri, etc, until I got to the top. I let the last of the light strand hang out the top then I added some more pinecones on the top. I set the whole thing next to my china cabinet. I chose that spot cuz it was the only place I had an open outlet, but it turned out to be a good spot. The christmas lights get warm enough to heat up the potpourri and fill the air with a wonderful scent. It really doesn't fill the whole room but it's sitting in a spot that gets a good amount of traffic, so you get a nice light scent when you walk by. Nothing over powering tho. I guess I didn't mention I put a glass on top of the crock. It was one that I had lying around. Left over from those table kits. You know, the ones that had the three legs that screwed onto the the round plywood top. Then you would top it with a round topper and then topped it off with the round glass.

My granddaughter left her signature on the front of the crock. I didn't notice it until I got the picture posted. Could she be the next Monet? (lol)

Hope you enjoyed

2 NEW ADDITIONS TO THE FAMILY

We just had two baby chicks hatch. One yesterday morning and one this morning. We really intented to hatch goose eggs. Our geese started laying their eggs pretty early and we were afraid that it was still too cold out so we decided to gather up the eggs and put them in the incubator. Then we decided to fill up the rest of the incubator with chicken eggs. We really wasn't sure if any of the eggs were fertile but we gave it a try anyway. Well, the goose eggs weren't fertile and only two chicken eggs were. The other set of geese are now laying their eggs but we are going to let them take care of their own eggs. Maybe they'll be fertile.

Here's a couple of pictures of our peahens sitting in the sun. The one in front is the young one, hatched in June 2008. The one in the back is the older one. We think she is about 3 or 4 years old. She laid eggs last spring (none hatched) so we're hoping we get some that will hatch this year. The male wasn't around to be in the picture. I'll be showing you pictures of him later when he struts his stuff with is tail fanned out. That tail of his is amazing!!

One of the hens wanted to be in the picture too!!

Have a Good Day

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Happy Valentines Day Ya'll

This sure has been a very busy week. We've been cleaning out the guys' shop to make it into a kidding room. We are venturing into the goat business. We didn't plan on buying any goats until we had the shelter and fencing up and ready for them. Well, needless to say, we couldn't wait. A guy had two pregnant goats that he wanted to sell and they were dirt cheap. What we paid for the two pregnant goats was about the same price as what 1 goat that isn't pregnant would cost. So you see why we had to jump at the chance. Well, we had to hurry to find a place to put them, so we cleaned out the shop and put up temporary stalls to put them in. They should be having their babies somewhere around the first of March. The shop has heat in it, so it won't be cold in there when the babies come. I haven't taken any pictures of the goats yet. They're just now getting used to their new home and I didn't want to scare them anymore than they were already. I took a few pictures while we were putting up the stalls.
Here's what they look like.......

Friday we went to pick up our new Pyrenees puppy. He is so adorable!!!! :) He's 8 weeks old and weighs 15 pounds. While we were researching on how to raise goats, nearly all the places had a Pyrenees guarding them. All the places we visited had a couple of Pyrenees dogs guarding their goats. So, while we were looking for goats we were also looking for puppies, too. When we got home with him, he and our son instantly bonded, so we called up the owner and asked if we could get another pup from her. We should be getting him Wednesday.

Our son just walked in the door and gave us the news that it's final that he and his fiance are getting their house. They expect to be in it in a month. I'm happy and sad all at the same time. Our baby is leaving!!! We will officially be empty nesters. What am I going to do with his room? Hummmmmmm!!! (lol) Guest room, craft room, oh the possibilities!!!!

Picture of the week

I might as well cram some more into this one post. I didn't get the 'picture of the week' posted on friday so I might as well do it now while I have the time.

Did you guess what it is? A glass baby bottle from 1900. This was my grandma's baby bottle. The pictures didn't pick up the writing too well. The first and last picture is of the top of the bottle. It says "Perfection Feeder Colburn, Birks & Co. Peoria, ILLS. The middle picture, which is the bottom of the bottle has the marks for 'fluid ounces'. It can holds 8 ounces. Then, of course, a rubber nipple would have been slipped over the opening.

Not a very unusual item, but so fascinating how the baby bottle had changed over the years.

I guess this will be all for now. Will keep you all updated on the goats, puppy and the son's new house. Hope everyone has had a good Valentines Day.

WEEKLY PICTURE

Not much to right about this one. I think once you see this one, you might recognize it. My grandma used to use it as a door stop. She would let me play with it. I used to move the tail up and down to make the mouth look like it was barking. Every once in awhile grandma would have some nuts on hand to let me crack them. It really didn't do a very good job. I could see them being given as gag gifts.

HERE'S A BONUS PICTURE SINCE I DIDN'T POST ONE LAST WEEK

A Glass Float?

I'm really not sure what this is called. I believe it is some kind of floating thing. Was it attached to a net, along with many others, for something to do with fishing?

This one I need your help on. What to you think it is? It's glass with a thick jute-like rope woven around it. The glass is supposed to be clear but has been 'etched' over the years. I think that because if you move the rope, the glass is clear underneath it but the open areas have that 'etched' look.

I would love to hear your ideas.

DON'T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEIR HATCHED

I was so excited on my last post. Thought our son was coming home. That was a short lived excitement. He called to tell us that the airlines computers were down and they didn't know when they were going to leave. Well, it turned out they were only about an hour behind schedule. So, he's on his way to Georgia. I get back on the internet to check and see if the plane that he is supposed to get on to come home in is going to be delayed. Of course not. I'm now just hoping the pilot can make up some time in the air and get to Georgia before the other plane leaves. My son's plane is scheduled to arrive at 10:05 and his plane home is scheduled to leave at 9:50. That plane is the last plane of the day. No more flights to home until morning. Well, needless to say, the plane home didn't wait to bring him home. As he was landing in Georgia the plane home was leaving. What a disappointment. :( So the airport set him up in a nearby hotel. They shuttled him to the hotel and then will shuttle him back to the airport in the morning. When he got to the hotel room he called us right away. He's staying in a $500 a night room in the sheraton. He also got a $10 meal voucher. Now we're all jealous!!! He went to go get something to eat but decided to just get something out of the vending machine. A cheeseburger was going to cost him $15. Boy, their food must be lined in gold.

Tuesday morning, me, the hubby and the fiance got up and headed for the airport around 9:30. My son's plane wasn't expected until nearly noon but we decided to go out for breakfast. Not so good weather came thru that night so we were a little cautious with the hour and a half drive. We decided to go straight to the airport to check on the status of the flight. Good, right on time. We went to Burger King to get a quick bite. Don't go to a fast food place when you're on a schedule. They screwed up one of our orders. So we had to hurry and eat. As we were pulling up to the airport we saw his plane landing. We got into the airport to find a good hiding spot for his fiance and just in time. Hugs, kisses and SURPRISE. He sure was glad to be home. He says it's going to be a long time before he flies again and he's not going to fly into that Georgia airport again.

Waiting for the order they messed up.

The fiance.

Fiance drawing the "welcome home" sign on the chalkboard. The chalkboard is one of my trash to treasure projects. Just spraypainted chalkboard paint on it and voila'.

You may have seen this on another post but I just think it is the neatest thing.

HE'S HOME!!!!

The other guy is a friend that was coming home at the same time. They were both glad they didn't have to deal with flying alone this time.

Look at the happy faces!!!

His luggage arrived with him.

More good news. My daughter called this morning to tell me granddaughter #2 took her first few steps alone. She will be 1 year old tomorrow. Her birthday party is going to be sunday. I guess I better go shopping, huh. Me, the procrastinator.

OH HAPPY DAY

I have two things to be happy about. First is my son is coming home today. He's been gone for two weeks on a job in Colorado. We go pick him up tonight at the airport. We have a little surprise for him when he gets off the plane. His fiance is going with us. She told him she wouldn't be able to be there so he thinks he won't be seeing her until tomorrow. I'll be taking my camera with me so I'll be taking pictures to show off tomorrow.

The second thing is my computer is up and running. My antivirus subscription ran out and I didn't renew it right away. That's me the procrastinator. Well, as you know, if you don't have any protection, viruses just love your computer and mine was FULL of viruses. I spent 3 days working on it. When you live out in the boonies like I do, it feels like the whole world has forgotten about. I've had no contact with the outside world. But now I'm back. I wasn't able to add my weekly picture on friday, so I'll just wait to show you on this friday.

Gotta go do that dreaded housework thing.
